Extraordinary Measures is the true life story of John Crowley, a resident of neighboring Princeton, New Jersey. Crowley, played by Brendan Fraser is a former military man who receives his degree in law and an MBA. He makes a small fortune while being a lawyer. While his wife and him start their family, two of their children are diagnosed with a rare, incurable disease, “Pompe Disease’. Crowley then creates his own biotechnology firm and with his wealth and the help of Dr. Robert Stonehill (played by Harrison Ford), he works towards a cure. Sure enough, Crowley finds a cure, saves his children, and has a treatment for Pompe Disease sufferers for the rest of time. http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810120879/trailer

“The movie injects doses of humor into a deadly serious subject. Be sure to bring tissues since this crowd-pleaser will elicit tears of sadness, hope and joy.” -Keith Cohen, Entertainment Spectrum http://entertainmentspectrum.com/index/movies/1036/extraordinarymeasures.html

The movie was not very publicized. There was some advertising done on television but most of the commercials were not done in prime time hours and was almost solely on CBS and their affiliated channels. It was produced by CBS Films, and it was the studios first major film release.

The movie is entertaining and even though it shares similarities to many stories, this one is real.

This movie sounds like it was really interesting. I remember seeing commercials for it I believe over winter break and it looked like although it was a serious topic bits of humor were added to lighten the mood. I do agree that the advertising was minimal. I don't even remember hearing about how much money it grossed its first week which means it probably did not do that well unfortunately.

I have still not seen this movie, but it is actually based off of my neighbor's friend's life. I have only heard stories about the Crowleys, but they seem like truly amazing people.

My neighbor maintains the Crowleys' website as well as their personal Facebook page. Prior to the NYC premiere of "Extraordinary Measures," my neighbor and Mr. Crowley launched a raffle for tickets to the premiere, which was attended not only by the stars of the film but other celebrities as well. In order to enter the raffle, participants had to become fans of the Crowleys' Facebook page and enter their e-mail address to receive updates from Mr. Crowley. This method serves as a great way to promote the film beyond the previews as well as create lasting interest in the Crowleys' lives.
